Welcome to the DSL Troubleshooting Page. This is only for NISHANET subscribers.

I. Why can't I do anything on the internet?

    Things to check:
    1. Are there 3 green lights on your DSL modem?

If not you need to call Verizon. The reason is because the line is not set up yet on Verizon's end.

    2. Are all the cables hooked up correctly?

Look in the manual that came with your DSL Modem to see if they are set up correctly.

    3. Are your network settings set up correctly?

Go to Start->Settings->Control Panel->Network and make sure you have entered in your IP address correctly and Subnet Mask.

    4. Are you able to ping our router?

Go to Start->Run and type in "command" without the quotes.  In the command prompt type:
    ping 204.94.239.1
If you receive a reply from the IP address, and everything else is set up correctly, give us a call at (540)-720-0442 and we will try to help you.
If you receive Time Outs from that IP address then you need to call Verizon Tech Support. The reason for this is if you can't ping 204.94.239.1, then you aren't reaching us at NISHANET.  Since Verizon brings you to our router, and everything on your end is set up correctly, something on Verizon's end is not set up correctly.

II. I am online, but I can't surf any web sites, what should I do?

    Things to check:
    1. Are your browser settings correct?

->In Internet Explorer, go to Tools->Internet Options-> Connections Tab
First, make sure the Always Dial my default connection is not selected.
Next click the Lan Settings button.
    Make sure everything is unchecked.
    ->In Netscape Navigator/Communicator, go to Edit->Preferences->Advanced->Proxies
Make sure "Direct Connection to the Internet is Selected.

    2. Are your DNS settings set up correctly?

Go to Start->Settings->Control Panel->Network and go to the properties of your TCP/IP protocol for your Network Adapter.
Click the DNS tab and make sure you have the right DNS numbers. They should be on the instruction sheet provided to you at signup.
